SHAME PREVENTS, PROTECTS AND DESTROYS. SHAME ENABLES AS THERE IS NO FIERCER DRIVE THAN SHAME — IT’S A FORCE LIKE NO OTHER, ITS INESCAPABLE RUSTY STENCH GOVERNING EVERY ASPECT OF HUMAN EXISTENCE.

THE 1980 FLOOR SHOW IS A PSYCHEDELIC ROCK MUSICAL PRESENTED BY DAVID BOWIE AND HELD IN 1973 AT THE MARQUEE CLUB IN LONDON.
THE DIPTYCH PERFORMANCE BETWEEN BOWIE AND MARIANNE FAITHFULL CLOSES THE SHOW. BOWIE DRESSED IN FEATHERS AND LEATHER THIGH HIGH BOOTS WHILE FAITHFULL APPEARS AS A NUN, MODESTLY VEILED AND WRAPPED IN A DARK CAPE.


THEIR DUET ENCAPSULATES THE EXTREMES OF THE SPECTRUM OF HUMAN LIBERTY AND SHAME. ONE FIGURE ENGULFED IN SELF INFLICTED SHAME, THE OTHER SEEMINGLY FREE FROM IT. A PARALLEL BETWEEN A FIGURE CONSTRICTED BY DIVINE-IMPOSED MODESTY AND A HALF HUMAN, HALF BIRD ALOFT, AS A PEACOCK FANNING ITS TAIL. YET, WHILE OPPOSED, THEY CAN’T EXIST WITHOUT ONE ANOTHER, ONE’S CONTROL BALANCING THE OTHER’S FLAMBOYANCE.

ONE PRAYER OF RESTRAIN, ONE PRAYER OF EXCESS AS WITHOUT SHAME THERE IS NO STAGE; WITHOUT SIN, NO SPECTACLE.

THIS COLLECTION ESTABLISHES ARCHETYPES BASED ON MY NEW-COME PROXIMITY WITH WEALTH, THROUGH PRIVATE EDUCATION AND NAVIGATING THE FASHION INDUSTRY. FROM A BIASED AND FRUSTRATED OBSERVER STANDPOINT, MOTHERLODE IS A DEPICTION OF AN INTRICATE DANCE BETWEEN PRIVILEGE AND ASPIRATION BASED ON MY ENCOUNTERS WITH HARKONNEN SNOBS, CORPORATE CANNIBALS AND OLIGARCHS WANNA-BES.

INVASION COLLECTION PART I TAKES PLACE IN THE ALIEN MOTHERSHIP. A BLACK SHINY MATERIAL IS USED TO HIGHLIGHT THE OTHERWORLDLY, UNNATURAL FEEL OF THE COLLECTION. THE IDEA BEHIND THE PIECES WAS TO CREATE A KIND OF PETROLEUM FLOW FROM ONE LOOK TO THE OTHER.THE ENVIRONMENT IS SET TO ENHANCE THE UNCANNY AND GHOSTLY STYLING.

 

THE ALIEN MOTHERSHIP OFFERS A BALANCE BETWEEN ORGANIC AND MECHANICAL AND SETS THE TONE FOR THE REST OF THE COLLECTION.

THE ALIEN CREW STEPS OUT IN NATURE WEARING THE DESIGNS; THIS PART FEATURES MORE TECHNICAL, EVERYDAY-WEAR PIECES REQUIRED FOR EXPLORATION. ELEMENTS SUCH AS THE PUFFERS AND MECHANICAL GEAR PROVIDE PROTECTION AND A SENSE OF SHELTER AGAINST THE UNFAMILIAR ENVIRONMENT.

 

LOTS OF THE COLORS USED MIMIC THE SURROUNDINGS IN AN ATTEMPT TO STAY UNSEEN.

 

THE MODELS HAVE TO CLIMB THE ROCKS IN ORDER TO INSPECT THE LAND

PART III OF THE COLLECTION FOLLOWS THE CAPTURING OF THE ALIENS BY HUMANS TO BE OBSERVED AND ANALYZED.

 

IT TAKES PLACE IN AN REMOTE LAB/AUTOPSY ROOM LOCATED IN THE MOUNTAINS. FUTURISTIC TECHNOLOGY IS USED BY THE SCIENTISTS TO TRY AND GET A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE FOREIGN BODIES.

THE DESIGNS ARE BASED ON RESTRAINTS/LINKS USED BY THE SCIENTISTS TO KEEP THE ALIENS FROM MOVING DURING THEIR EXPERIMENTATIONS. THIS THEME OF " BANDS" IS USED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE COLLECTION, FROM PLEATS, FUR LINES OR BRIDAL-LIKE TRAILS TO ACTUAL WRAPPED PIECES.

THIS HELPS TO CREATE A SENSE OF STRUCTURE AND DIRECTION WITHIN THE GARMENTS AS WELL AS A FEELING OF PROTECTION AND STRENGTH.
